The large special exhibition "Dresses on the Move - Women's Fashion since 1850" rolls up the subject of "Dresses, and how they move us and we move in them" from the historical perspective from behind the scenes, as it were: It shows how textiles illustrate changes in female movement patterns. Breaches of style and taboos, as well as the question of gender, expressed through clothing and fashions over a period spanning 80 years, are the focus here.

Presented will be around 200 exhibits - concentrated on objects from the museum's own textile and fashion collection, supplemented by exquisite international loans (textiles, paintings, graphics and photographs). More than 50 full garments and numerous individual items of clothing are shown in moments of movement, from bourgeois formal dress and corsets to reform and working dresses, bathing suits, first trousers and evening wear. In a sophisticated scenography - for the design and illumination of which Michaelis Szenografie and atelier deLuxe were enlisted - the exhibition presents regional and international fashion, art and movement history, establishes references to current discussions and media and poses questions about today's freedom and limitation of movement through clothing.
