Pakistan, a cell, in the near future: for three weeks, Nick Bright, a trader at the global Citibank, has been held hostage here. The charismatic Imam Saleem and his henchmen are demanding a ransom of 10 million dollars for their projects "for the benefit of the people". An exorbitant sum that neither Nick's employers nor the U.S. government are willing to pay. In desperation, Nick makes an insane proposal to the Imam: he wants to earn the ransom himself. He is helped by Bashir, the Imam's right-hand man. He quickly learns how to influence the market: Unrest and bad news are good business if you know how to use them. But the more money accumulates in the terrorists' accounts, the greater the temptation. The successful American author Ayad Akhtar translates the pressing questions of our time into an exciting thriller in which cultural and political identities are questioned. Anselm Weber's production at the Bochum Schauspielhaus was the German language premiere.
