That's quite a statement. While the music fair showcases the latest instruments, James Yorkston is only too happy to surround himself with very special, and above all, old, history-steeped, sound generators. His new album, released at the end of February, is called "The Route To The Harmonium". On it you can hear the dulciton (a kind of celesta from the 19th century), an autoharp (a box zither common in bluegrass), even the Swedish nyckelharpa and of course a harmonium. "The Route To The Harmonium" could alternatively be read as "The Search For Peace", the Scottish singer/songwriter lets us know. A very personal album was created in the fishing village of Cellardyke, where Yorkston virtually went into seclusion. Fishing nets used to be repaired in the room he retreated to. "An intense, emotional chamber play," Rolling Stone calls "The Route ." "I think as a musician and a writer, I'm reacting to what's going on around me. So this album is about life, places, family and the absence of it that comes with being a touring musician. But there are also references to friends who have gone away - the questions of how and why," Yorkston explains. 'But above all, it's music for us, the "left behind". Those who have to navigate the here and now and find their way.
