"Jazz is not what you do, but how you do it." With this quote from Thomas "Fats" Waller, saxophonist Jörg Linke would like to introduce his music to the listeners. Born in 1968 in Eisenach, Thuringia, the musician discovered his love for modern swinging music in his very early teens. During his six-year studies at the "Franz Liszt" College of Music in Weimar, he was able to distinguish himself in many well-known bands of the then East German scene, such as the "Art Comune", "Collage", "Jazzpohl", "Tune up" or the Leipzig radio big band. In 1989 he became a finalist at the international improvisation competition in Katowice. Anyone who has attended a concert of the "Jörg Linke Jazzgroup" will have noticed the close relationship of this music to tradition. The saxophonist names Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Zoot Sims, Don Byas, Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young as his great idols. You can hear well-known and rarely played storytelling songs of the "Great American Songbook", fast-paced bebo fireworks and of course detours into the blues.
