The man from Yorkshire is not only a fingerstyle guitar virtuoso, but also a top songwriter, who also knows how to convince as a singer. "The music I write expresses what I think about the world," Gomm stressed in an interview with Guitar & Bass magazine, making it clear that his music is not all artistry and abstraction. And yet, of course, Gomm's performance is mesmerizing because of the artistry in his complex playing. "I must use 25 different tunings, so almost every song I write is in a different mood," he once said. Even a gifted soloist like Gomm has a band past. "I'm a weird person. For me, it's very difficult to play in a band because I'm not very good at communicating with other people," he candidly confessed in the aforementioned interview. "If I ever work with other musicians, it has to be ones who know me and know how emotional I am."
