For almost thirty years now, the struggle of England's power elites has raged for supremacy in the country. It has cost many lives. All parties have dirt on them and blood on their hands. But now, at last, there is to be peace! Peace? Beneath the surface, the power struggle continues unabated, the brutal struggle for privilege and position continues. One political player acts more murderously and unscrupulously than all his competitors: Richard, Duke of Gloucester. An unsightly freak, an outsider, he seeks his place: to become King of England.
He needs the war that has filled almost his entire life, and in his ego mania seems to know only one goal: ME, the three-letter world empire. Murdering coolly, Richard gradually eliminates troublesome relatives and recalcitrant nobles. He courts Princess Anne, the widow of his nephew Edward V.., and proposes to her in the midst of the funeral procession for the murdered King Henry, her father-in-law.
