Piano Trio No. 3 in B major op. 8 (second version from 1889) After studying at various music conservatories in Spain and Germany, the three musicians of Trio Pedrells decided to follow their path together in the future. They named themselves after Felip Pedrell, a forgotten Catalan composer, musicologist, publisher, ethnomusicologist, who is one of the fathers of Spanish national music. At the University of Music, Drama and Media in Hanover they graduated with a Master's degree in chamber music under Markus Becker. They have attended master classes with Wayne-Foster Schmidt, Luis Fernando Pérez, Ralph Gotoni, Claudio Martínez Mehner, among others, and have collaborated with violinist and composer Jordi Cervelló. Trio Pedrell has already received several important awards and is one of the most promising chamber music ensembles in Spain. In 2015, they were selected by the Fundación Piu Mosso from more than 500 musicians to make their concert debut at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. They have also performed in Burgos, Zamora, Segovia, Oviedo, Almeria, Zafra or La Coruña with great success.
Johannes Brahms underwent a radical revision of his Trio in B major, composed in 1854, in 1889, after describing the earlier version as "garrulous".
Schubert's one-movement Trio of 1812 (!) still allows the influence of Mozart to be heard through. Many harmonic turns and melodic ideas already point to the large-scale later trios. Robert Gerhardt, a pupil of Felip Pedrell and Arnold Schönberg, whose piano trio was composed in Barcelona in 1918, takes the stage.
