The Free Drama Ensemble's theater is also closed. But necessity is the mother of invention - and so in February, online platforms will be the ensemble's stage. The video project "BEFREIUNG" - especially developed for Corona times with curfews and distance rules - will be shown. A drama in ZOOM format. It will appear weekly in five parts, one after the other, on the YouTube channel of the Free Drama Ensemble. It will start with the first part on February 07, the other parts will follow on 2/14, 2/21, 2/28 and on 3/7/2021.

We live in a time where it is hip to free oneself from constricting conventions, traditional role models, values and authority structures. The individual should be able to develop freely and determine his life. Nothing should be taboo anymore, everything should be possible. Self-realization is the central ideal of the present. In this context, the assumption of responsibility appears as a burden, as a restriction of individual development possibilities. At the same time, however, the assumption of responsibility is the basic condition for the continuity of a society, a community, a family, a relationship of friendship or love.

In the video project BEFREIUNG the story of two women and two men is told, who try to shape their lives in this field of tension between the desire for freedom, self-realization and unconditional self-determination on the one hand and the need for emotional support and the necessity of taking responsibility on the other.

Naturally, this effort - with the flexibility and mobility expected in today's working world - often leads to unforeseen, unpredictable problems arising precisely when the work-related physical distance between the protagonists is insurmountably large, but physical proximity and open, clarifying conversation would be urgently needed. - People help each other with video calls or conferences. And that is perhaps how many contemporary dramas are played out on Zoom.

Actress Lina - ambitious and single - is currently rehearsing in Cologne for a three-month tour of Africa with Goethe's "IPHIGENIE". Her brother Matthias, a dedicated teacher, lives in Frankfurt with his two children from his first marriage finally together with his dream woman, the former globetrotter Katharina. Living with them is the young filmmaker Karl, a former student of Matthias. But both Katharina and Karl are out of town at the moment: Katharina is in the south of France for two months for further yoga training and Karl is in Berlin doing research for his first major documentary.

In this situation, Lina and Matthias learn that their mother has fallen in their Kiel apartment - as she has so many times before - and is in hospital. She can no longer live there alone. Another solution must be found urgently. But the siblings are at odds. In addition, a surprisingly unwanted pregnancy puts pressure on everyone involved. All the protagonists of the story are tied up in different places. There remains the possibility to communicate by phone or via internet. And so the video drama takes its course.

It plays: Michaela Conrad, Niklas Fiedler, Bettina Kaminski and Hans-Peter Schupp

Directed by: Reinhard Hinzpeter
