According to international critics, Michael Sagmeister is without a doubt one of the world's best guitarists of his genre and is already considered a legend throughout Europe. Many will not relativize but absolutize that he is one of the masters par excellence. This is impressively underlined by statements of colleagues like Larry Coryell, who heard Sagmeister in a concert where he represented John Mc Lauglin in his world music formation "Shakti", said: "I can't believe how good he is. To me, one of the best guitarists in the world".

His constant commitment to "spreading guitar ignorance" as he likes to call it himself led to him publishing several instructional books. As a result, the standard work "Sagmeisters Jazzgitarre" became one of the best-selling post-war textbooks in the genre.
