The Sound of Light
<"His music strikes our hearts as directly as a sunbeam cutting through the black infinity of space until at last it meets the human eye, a green leaf, a rose blossom." No, it was not a poet of Romanticism who expressed himself so rapturously there - nor was the one whose music is praised here in such flowery terms an artist of the 19th century. Rather, one of the most idiosyncratic conductors of our day speaks here about a master of the Baroque whose originality posterity has only discovered for itself in recent years. Teodor Currentzis, and Jean-Philippe Rameau: a happy liaison, not only since the Russian conductor presented a euphorically reviewed recording with excerpts from Rameau's operas in 2014. The conductor, to whom a Focus Festival is dedicated this season, and his orchestra MusicAeterna are very familiar with historical performance practice - in the case of Rameau, this results in a gripping interpretation that fully savours all the extremes, i.e. all the emotions, but also all the rough edges.
