Roy Assaf began his career as a dancer and assistant to choreographer Emanuel Gat. Since 2010, he has been developing his own creations with great success. Most recently, he has created new works for Los Angeles Dance Project, Royal Swedish Ballet and Batsheva Dance Company, among others. About his work in Mainz he says: "Whenever I am at the beginning of rehearsals for a new work, I don't know anything about the piece I want to do. I actually want to change that, but regularly fail with it. Because every time I find that the inspiration and the ideas only come in the moment when I meet the dancers. It's like the ideas wait for the right moment to show up and come to life through real bodies."
