"The warmth of mammals. The sound of the sea. A boy smiling. If you look at something long and hard enough, you become that something. And when that happens, you disappear. Serenity. Snatches of noise. The roar with which blood runs through veins. The shy, drawn to the spotlight.
He instinctively charges forward. She grows notes like bacteria in a petri dish. All research. Hesitation. Things that have not been said. Pondering to the point of paralysis. Chaos. Shifting perspective. Writing songs to make emotion durable for rough times.
Rain. Electricity. Sound as texture. Collecting sounds. Synthesizers and drum machines. Finding ways to escape the wandering mind and keep anxiety at bay. Luckily poetry is code, the most dangerous things can be said without actually saying them.
Odd Beholder was formed in 2013 in a bomb shelter in Dietikon. Daniela Weinmann wrote the songs in the apartment of artist Curdin Tones in Amsterdam. The music was recorded in Berlin. Live, Odd Beholder is characterized by minimalist drum programming and synth sounds. The video clip for the single "Landscape Escape" was shot by Berlin filmmakers Grambow & Kirchknopf in Azerbaijan in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Social & Modern Dance Association. They enlisted artists Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs for the EP cover. Their debut EP was released on September 16."
