Duration approx. 30 minutes
The Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Goethe University Frankfurt presents French revolutionary music by François-Joseph Gossec or Charles Simon Catel - and juxtaposes it with works by Beethoven. The funeral march of Beethoven's Piano Sonata op. 26 also dates from the time when the "Eroica" was composed. Beethoven himself arranged a version for wind ensemble - which was later to form the heroic accompaniment at his own funeral. Mauricio Kagel's "Ten Marches to Miss Victory" provide the program's ironic refraction: a bitterly wicked satire on all things warlike in music and a musical illustration of how easily straight-beat certainties can fall out of step.
