Three English vicar's daughters in the 19th century who seek liberation through writing and all die bloody young - can that still be interesting today? Sure, thinks dedicated teacher Lotte, and she tries to get her students interested in the great novels by famous writers Charlotte, Emily and Anne Brontë. With little success. They find talk of emancipation dull, and they have no desire at all for stories about people who have been dead for 170 years. They are looking for their place in life, struggling with the expectations of their families and the fear of disappointment. "What is it okay to hope for, what is worth fighting for, and what do we have to dare to make our own lives? What do we owe ourselves and our talents?"
Suddenly everything the Brontë sisters left for posterity in their novels and letters is surprisingly relevant. And their attempt to make a living under a male pseudonym and catch a small slice of fame is exciting anyway. But in order to be women writers, they have to bump loved ones in the head and not ask "what's right".
