After some time in the East Village and later in Los Angeles, Tom Odell's songs just bubbled up and formed the basis for "Wrong Crowd". Working with producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Adele), he developed a more rhythmic, energetic sound that cineaste Tom Odell needed for his musical vision: "I wanted the songs to sound big and dramatic. Strings and strong melodies were needed to give more emphasis to the song structures and express the rich musicality."
The album tells the story of a man who remains trapped in his youth, longing for it back - a longing for innocence in a twisted world. It's a fictional story, but the feelings and sensations I know myself too - even if they are heightened on the record. I wanted to create a world that felt highly real."
A film, in fact, that condenses the many influences that have crashed in on him over the past three years. Tom Odell has more than succeeded with "Wrong Crowd."
