From the docklands of Buenos Aires to Istanbul: thanks to the velvety voice of singer Serap Giritli, the ensemble creates a perfect soundscape with gentle cello sounds (Jakob Schütze), the Turkish harp Kanun (Muhittin Kemal Temel), the guitar of Cengiz Onural and the double bass (Katharina Gross). The tango originated around the 1950s on the Río de la Plata. In the 1920s it spread far beyond the borders of Argentina and tangos were created in many different countries, including Turkey. In addition to numerous instrumental pieces, songs were created that expressed the passionate feelings of insatiable longing in wistful lyrics. For a long time, Turkish tango was played only with European instruments, but since the late 90s it has also been played with Turkish instruments. Uniting three continents and cultures, the ensemble Tango Ala Turka spans bridges across the Atlantic, all the way to the former Byzantine capital Istanbul. In this concert, the different cultures merge into the epitome of transculturality. The cello gently accompanies the plucked strings of the Turkish harp Kanun, the harmony-perfect guitar and the double bass. With the velvety voice of the singer, the ensemble transports the listener into a perfect world of sound. The quintet was formed in 2010 under the umbrella of the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim and played at the Turkey Country Festival in Stuttgart as well as at the Enjoy Jazz Festival in Mannheim with the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester. Artists: Serap Giritli (voc), Cengiz Onural (git), Jakob Schütze (vc), Katharina Gross (kb), Muhittin Kemal Temel (Kanun) Text source and more information about this event: http://www.ztix.com/event.php/1195120/#moreinfo
