Operetta by Johann Strauss: Viennese bon vivant Gabriel von Eisenstein is invited to Prince Orlofsky's ball. Actually, a few days of arrest in prison await him, but he does not want to miss the social event and the opportunity to flirt. So he decides not to begin his sentence until the morning after, says goodbye to his wife Rosalinde and secretly uses the remaining reprieve at the ball to amuse himself. Eisenstein unsuspectingly courts his own wife there: having become suspicious after a tip-off, she appears at the lavish party dressed as a Hungarian countess. In the meantime, her suitor Alfred has been arrested instead of Eisenstein due to some entanglements. It is not until the next morning in prison that the confusion is cleared up. There Eisenstein also realizes that he has fallen victim to the "revenge of the bat". The "Bat"is one of the three most famous Strauss operettas, along with the "Gypsy Baron" and "A Night in Venice". The reason is above all the extremely subtle, stirring and masterly composition. Highlights include the Clock Duet, the Czardas, the aria of Prince Orlofsky and the choral waltz "Brüderlein und Schwesterlein - Du und Du" in the second act.
