The traveling salesman Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning to find that he has lost his human form and speech. So begins Franz Kafka's world-famous tale. But it is not only the protagonist himself who is transformed, but also his domineering father, his sick mother and his worried sister - indeed, even the rooms of the apartment. Nothing is as it seems, even the most familiar thing becomes a threat. Until the family finally decides: Gregor Samsa must leave. Jan-Christoph Gockel's production transfers Kafka's world, which has become uncertain, into a multiply fragmented game with perspectives and dimensions. People become puppets, miniatures become giants, dreams become delusional reality. Kafka's sparse, precise and yet obscuring language finds its counterpart in strong theatrical images that emphasize the central theme of dehumanization without attempting to resolve the enigma of Kafka down to the last detail.
