Folk-Punk / Streetpunk Concert at KESSELHAUS
The Real McKenzies leave no one on the edge of their seat thanks to a terrific blend of Scottish folk and mainland punk. Yet they're not even Scottish. Legend has it, though, that the Canadians have roots there. So be it. Scots or not, The Real McKenzies have imbibed folk with their mother's milk and discovered punk as a means of transport. If you need a comparison, you're probably right somewhere between Flogging Molly (just as fast, but different beer) and Dropkick Murphys (real beer, but less bagpipes) - but who's to say, not only since their recently released 10th (!) album "Two Devils Will Talk" they are probably the most important Folkpunk band on the planet. Also this year straight punk rock, clouded by a peculiar sadness, meets bagpipe action, wonderfully supported by galloping drums, melody parts and sing-a-longs.
