INTO THE MUSEUM: 10 YEARS OF EDUCATION WEEK AT THE STÄDEL MUSEUM
FROM 18. TO JULY 21, 2022 CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AGAIN DISCOVER THE WORKS OF ART IN THE STÄDEL / FAMILY SUNDAY ON 24. JULY 2022
The Städel Museum's Education Week celebrates its anniversary: for the tenth time, the free, large-scale education week for children and young people will take place at the Städel Museum. From July 18 to 21, 2022, the Städel, together with Frankfurter Volksbank Rhein/Main, invites school classes, daycare and after-school groups to discover the museum's artworks on site. After the education week was mainly experienced via digital offerings in the past two years due to the pandemic situation, the youngest audience is coming back to the museum this summer. Under the motto "The World in Pictures," the Städel will once again become an interactive
place of learning in the last week before the summer vacations: playful and age-appropriate knowledge stations in the Old Masters and Contemporary Art collection areas, creative workshops and an art quiz encourage active engagement with the works of art and promote independent learning and exploration. Art educators tell stories about the highlights of the collection, answer questions, and encourage visitors to exchange ideas with one another. In the newly designed Städel Garden, a sculpture workshop and a creative station to inspire 3-minute sketches for all ages complement the outdoor offerings.
At the conclusion of Education Week on July 24, 2022, Family Sunday will take place. All participating school, daycare, and after-school children will receive an admission voucher to visit the Städel Museum again together with their parents. The whole family can discover the Städel during hourly family tours of the collection. Open workshops invite visitors to get active themselves and try out their creativity.
In addition to what is on offer on site, a wide range of worksheets are available for downloading for use in lessons or daycare centers. The digital teaching materials combine age-appropriate content on selected works of art from the Städel Museum's collection with clear instructions for children and young people's artistic practice. The interactive digital application CLOSE UP Art & Politics is particularly suitable for art, history or politics lessons in grades 7 to 13. It deals with the question of how contemporary artists process political events in their works. The Städel Museum's other digital mediation offerings - Digitorials® to the exhibitions, the online course for modern art, or the Digital Collection - also offer children and young people broad-based access to the collection, which spans 700 years of art history.
