Pete Smith was born in Soest in 1960 as the son of a Spaniard and an Englishman. He studied German language and literature, philosophy and journalism at the University of Münster. After his master's degree, he first worked as a cultural editor before settling in Frankfurt am Main as a freelance writer. He writes novels, short stories and essays. In 2012, he was awarded the Robert Gernhardt Prize of the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts for his novel "Endgame".
