The English Theatre Frankfurt hosts a wonderful musical highlight until early March: "Young Frankenstein" by Mel Brooks, based on his cult film of the same name. Wonderful humor and catchy songs make the musical a great pleasure. And that's what the play is about:
With the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein, a legend has died. His grandson Frederick, a renowned neurosurgeon from New York, actually wants nothing to do with the legacy of his notorious ancestor. In order to settle the inheritance quickly, Frederick nevertheless sets off on a journey to Transylvania to his grandfather's castle. Once there, he is met by his hunchbacked servant Igor, the charming lab assistant Inga and the mysterious Frau Blücher. Soon the young Frankenstein falls under the spell of his grandfather's experiments. When he finally resumes his work, Frederick accomplishes "monstrous things!". But will he really follow in his grandfather's footsteps and repeat his mistakes?
Young Frankenstein is a hilarious take on the legendary Mary Shelly classic that combines madcap antics, an original script and high-energy performances to create an unforgettable adventure in Transylvania. The musical is based on the 1974 Mel Brooks film parody, and the veteran himself also wrote the music and lyrics for stage adaptation, which celebrated its Broadway premiere in 2007. With Young Frankenstein, director Derek Anderson, who has already made his mark on ETF audiences with productions such as "Sweeney Todd! or "One Flew Over the Cuckoo"s Nest," a brilliant musical in which slapstick meets horror classic.
Beloved characters such as Igor and Fr. Blücher are given new life with classic British humor by the 12-member ensemble. The music, featuring hits like "He Vas My Boyfriend," "Deep Love" and "Puttin'on the Ritz," will be presented nightly by the live band led by Musical Director Mal Hall.
