Between Kronberg and Hofheim in the Taunus, just outside Frankfurt, lies one of the most popular leisure facilities in the entire Rhine-Main region: The Opel Zoo. About 1600 animals from 200 species live here on an area of 27 hectares. Besides the Frankfurt Zoo, the Opel Zoo is the largest zoological garden in the Rhine-Main area and the only one that still has elephants. And to make them feel as comfortable as possible, an extensive outdoor enclosure was built for them at a cost of 11.2 million euros, which was completed in 2013. Without a doubt, this enclosure is one of the Opel Zoo's biggest attractions.
What makes the visit so intense, especially for children, is that they are also allowed to feed many animals with special food. This brings you into direct contact with many animals, which is of course not only for the young visitors, but also for adults always a nice experience. The Opel Zoo is not only suitable for a family visit because of the many animals and the beautiful outdoor enclosures. There are also several adventure playgrounds, barbecue huts and picnic facilities that offer great opportunities for an extended excursion. Also kiosks, a snack bar, the restaurant Zambezi or the restaurant Lodge (access also possible without visiting the zoo) with a great view of the 10,000sqm Africa Savannah complete the great offer of the Opel Zoo.
In addition, regular guided tours are offered and there are numerous special events throughout the year from action days to musical performances. No question about it, there's never a dull moment here. The entrance fee for adults may seem quite expensive at 14 <x>Ampersand</x>euro; per person. But in view of the offer, which is offered here, the price is just in comparison to other recreational facilities in the Rhine-Main area quite in order. Children from 3 to 14 years pay 7,50 €, in addition, there are still special group prices and discounts. Dogs are allowed (2 € admission), but must remain leashed at all times.
Whether polar foxes, elephants, moose, dromedaries, monkeys and crocodiles, whether play, information and enjoyment - in the extensive landscape zoo there is really something for everyone to discover. So if you're looking for a nice day out, the Opel Zoo comes highly recommended.
