Barbecue ban in all parks and green spaces

Ban on barbecues in city green spaces:<x><BR</x>Signs warn barbecue areas of major fire risk

Due to the persistent heat and severe drought, any spark can start a devastating fire. To protect the green spaces, the barbecue with open fire on all public barbecue areas of the city of Frankfurt am Main is therefore prohibited with immediate effect. Head of the Environment Rosemarie Heilig asks the citizens for their understanding for this step: "There are trees on all our barbecue areas, even the grass can catch fire in a flash. The risk is simply too great."

The ban applies to both wood and coal-powered grills as well as camping, gas and electric grills. In addition, the use of shishas fueled by glowing charcoal is prohibited.

Also, extra caution is advised in the woods. Forest soils, ground vegetation and fallen leaves are extremely dehydrated and highly flammable. The foresters of the Parks Department therefore once again urge forest visitors to behave with caution. Even a discarded bottle or a carelessly flicked away cigarette butt can be the trigger for a forest fire!

Smoking and open fires are generally not allowed in the forest. This applies within the framework of the now issued barbecue and fire ban also for the barbecue areas at the forest playgrounds Schwanheim and Scheerwald.

The ban applies until further notice, until this is lifted by the green space office again.

Further information is available at the green spaces office under the phone number 069/212-30991. Also tips on possible sources of danger can be communicated via this phone number. The barbecue ban is controlled by the Ordnungsamt.

The barbecue ban comes into force on the basis of the general order of Wednesday, 27. June, and applies from Thursday, 28 June.
