Cemetery Day surprises with unusual offers

Lectures, an exhibition and a special highlight

(ffm) Once again this year, visitors can expect a diverse program at the nationwide Day of the Cemetery at Frankfurt's main cemetery: including guided tours with different focuses, lectures, information booths, and also an exhibition on the end of World War I.

The Day of the Cemetery will take place on Sunday, September 16, starting at 1 p.m. at Frankfurt's main cemetery on Eckenheimer Landstraße. After opening the event with an ecumenical service, City Councilor Rosemarie Heilig will welcome guests. This will be followed by lectures and musical contributions. Parallel to this, tours on various topics will be offered.

This year, the day of the cemetery also takes place the Freisprechungsfeier of stonemasons. As journeyman pieces the apprentices have built seating elements. They are to find a place in the main cemetery and invite to stay. As a special and at the same time unusual highlight a so-called "Trauerslam" expects the guests. In this form of poetry slam, the best fictitious funeral speech for a famous personality will be "slammed": Tickets are available for five euros at the cooperative of cemetery gardeners, Eckenheimer Landstraße 192. The "Trauerslam" begins at 6 pm in the mourning hall.

Food and drinks will also be provided this year. Parking is available in limited numbers in front of the main cemetery. It is recommended that you travel by public transport. The U5 subway line stops directly in front of the main entrance at the Hauptfriedhof stop.
