Frankfurt has excellent bookshops

Four Frankfurt bookshops are awarded the German Bookshop Prize 2019

Books are education, are magic, are emotions - reading a book is and always will be a special experience, even in our digital world. Even though online commerce has just destroyed many smaller bookstores, for many, a visit to a bookstore is still an indispensable part of that special experience. Yet bookstores are often much more than places where you can search for, discover and buy books. They are places of encounter, culture and experience. It is not uncommon for them to offer readings, workshops or exhibitions designed to lure visitors away from their computers or smartphones and into the shops.

Once again this year, bookshops across Germany that offer a particularly diverse range of cultural activities or innovative business models will be honoured with the German Bookshop Prize. With 467 bookshops, there were 8% more applications this year, with numerous shops applying for the first time in 2019. The awards will be presented on 02 October in Rostock by Monika Grütters, Minister of State for Culture, with the 118 winners divided into three categories. The outstanding bookstores will receive prize money of 7,000 €, particularly outstanding bookstores will receive 15.000 € and the best bookstores are awarded 25,000 €.

From Hesse come 15 prize winners, including four from Frankfurt alone. The teams at the YPSILON on Berger Straße, the bookstore LAND IN SICHT in the Nordend, the AUTORENBUCHHANDLUNG MARX & CO in Grüneburgweg as well as from BERGEN ERLESEN in Bergen-Enkheim to look forward to. To which award winner category these four bookstores belong, will be announced on 02 October.

Frankfurt-Tipp congratulates the four Frankfurt bookshops, as well as their award-winning colleagues from Wiesbaden (Buch-Café Nero39), Offenbach (Buchladen am Markt), Kronberg (Kronberger Bücherstube), Seligenstadt (geschichten*reich) and all other award winners from Hesse.

On behalf of all bookworms we say: Thank you, that you exist!
