(ffm) Due to the weather of the last weeks, there is already the second highest forest fire warning level four. Next weekend, the highest warning level five is expected for Frankfurt.
The forest soils and ground vegetation are very dry. Remnants of autumn leaves and dry, sometimes resinous branches from the treetops provide easily flammable material.
Therefore, the Parks Department asks forest visitors to exercise the utmost caution and prudent behavior. Even a discarded cigarette butt can be the trigger for a fire in the city forest!
Smoking and open fires are generally not allowed in the forest. Discarded bottles and broken glass can also be the cause of forest fires. All citizens are asked to keep the rescue access roads at the forest entrances clear and not to block them with vehicles.
The foresters of the Parks Department are currently paying special attention to the fire hazard. The public is asked to be more vigilant. Anyone who discovers a forest fire or a source of danger must immediately call the emergency number 112 or inform the nearest district forester's office.
