Mainfest this year without fireworks

From Friday to Monday, the Mainfest, one of the city's most traditional festivals, will be celebrated. This year, however, there is a small drop of bitterness: due to the extremely hot and dry weather, the traditional closing of the festival will not have to be cancelled for the first time. Contrary to earlier announcements, no fireworks will light up the sky above the Mainfest on Monday, August 6, 10 p.m.

The cancellation, however, has a good reason: the extreme summer weather has dried out all the riverside meadows, trees and bushes to such an extent that Tourismus+Congress GmbH Frankfurt am Main, the organizer of the Mainfest, has cancelled the Mainfest fireworks on Wednesday, August 1, for safety reasons. After examining all possible precautions that could be taken to minimise the fire hazard posed by the fireworks, the residual risk had to be assessed as too high to allow fireworks to go off. The safety of the guests of the Mainfest as well as the adjacent development must have priority.

All Frankfurt residents are of course nevertheless cordially invited to conclude this year's Mainfest in one of the secluded summer gardens along the Main or on the Römerberg on Monday evening and to look forward together to the Mainfest 2019. To make up for the 2018 cancellation, the 2019 fireworks display will be more elaborate and spectacular than ever before.
