Major closure at Frankfurt Central Station on the night of 25 to 26 October

15.10.2019 | 15:14 Clock | Service
Major closure at Frankfurt Central Station on the night of 25 to 26 October

Train passengers in Frankfurt will have to prepare for diversions and train cancellations on Friday, 25 October, and Saturday, 26 October. Due to a necessary software update in several electronic interlockings in the Frankfurt railway node all railway lines to and from the main station - including the tunnel trunk line of the S-Bahn - will have to be closed on Saturday, October 26, between 2:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Trains will be cancelled during this time or will end on the outskirts of the city area: coming from the north at Frankfurt West station, from the east at Offenbach-Kaiserlei, from the west at Frankfurt-Höchst and from the south at Frankfurt Süd. From these stations, there will be a rail replacement service with buses to Frankfurt Central Station. Subways, trams and buses are not affected by the closure, so that these can be used instead of the S-Bahn in the Frankfurt city center area on Saturday morning.

In addition, the rail line from the main station via the stadium to the airport will be completely closed from 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 25, to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 26. Here, too, buses will be used as substitute transport.

"The software update in the interlockings is necessary due to the work on various infrastructure projects in the Frankfurt node: for the expansion of the Homburger Dam in Frankfurt Gallus, at the Stadium node and for the Gateway Gardens S-Bahn connection, new control and safety technology is being installed. In order for this to go into operation, it is necessary to install new software and carry out a safety inspection," explains Gerd-Dietrich Bolte, Head of Major Projects at DB Netz AG's Central Regional Division. "We are bundling all the work together to keep the impact on passengers as low as possible. Out of consideration for the Frankfurt Marathon, the closure of Frankfurt Central Station will therefore already take place on Friday night and not on Sunday night."

Deutsche Bahn and the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) ask all passengers to inform themselves about the current connections before starting their journey and apologize for the unavoidable restrictions. Alternative travel options and rail replacement services can be found in timetable information such as on www.bahn.de or www.rmv.de available.

Call a bike voucher

Whoever wants to use the bike offer of Call a Bike during the time of the closure can take advantage of a special offer of RMV and S-Bahn Rhein-Main. The companies will provide travellers with a five-euro voucher. This can be redeemed on 25 or 26 October by simply entering the voucher code "RMVSBAHN" in the Call a Bike app.

In addition, in order to connect the new Gateway Gardens S-Bahn station to the existing network, the regional train station at Frankfurt Airport will have to be closed from 25 October until 14 December. However, the S-Bahns will still be running to the airport during this time. They will only stop at the Frankfurt Airport long-distance station as an alternative. The S-Bahn stations Flughafen Regionalbahnhof and Kelsterbach will not be served. Rail replacement services will be provided between the airport and Kelsterbach. You can find more info HERE
