New staff unit 'Future of the Municipal Stages' established

Michael Guntersdorf named as head

(ffm) Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, Head of the Department of Culture Ina Hartwig, Mayor Uwe Becker and Head of the Department of Human Resources Stefan Majer presented Michael Guntersdorf as head of the new staff unit "Future of the Municipal Stages" at a press conference on Friday, September 7. This will take up its work on 1 October 2018 and bundle the responsibilities in order to develop a sound basis for decision-making for the city councillors on the future of the building. Experienced project manager, architect and urban planner Michael Guntersdorf will take on this task. He will be assisted by interdepartmental as well as external experts.

"The Städtische Bühnen are not only the cultural flagship of our city, but also the employer of over 1200 people. The high artistic quality with its national and international appeal must be secured for the future. In order to be able to give a substantial answer to the question of the perspectives of the Städtische Bühnen, I have concentrated the tasks and responsibilities in a new staff unit under the direction of Michael Guntersdorf. With the new staff unit, this major project will receive the necessary attention in terms of personnel and content," said Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann at the press conference in the Main Office and City Marketing at Römerberg.

The new staff unit reports to the head of culture and initially has four posts. "It is now a matter of resolutely driving the further process forward. I have prepared everything over the last few months and am very pleased that I have been able to recruit Michael Guntersdorf to head the new staff unit. Guntersdorf and his team can now devote all their energy and attention to this project. Michael Guntersdorf is skilled at handling projects of this magnitude. He can contribute his technical and organisational expertise from the project of the century, the Old Town, and enjoys great trust both in politics and among the citizens. I am convinced that he is the right man for the job," said Ina Hartwig, Head of the Department of Culture. The staff unit has an important interface function and works closely in particular with the offices and departments involved, as well as the Frankfurt Municipal Stages, in order to drive forward this project, which is so important for the city.

"The structural future of the Städtische Bühnen is a project for generations. With its jointly created path, the coalition shows that it is living up to its responsibility and has now set the course for a successful project. With Mr. Guntersdorf, the project will be led by an experienced professional who, in addition to the necessary know-how, also has the necessary assertiveness," said Mayor Uwe Becker.

Jan Schneider, department head for construction and real estate, was pleased that the compromise proposal Hartwig and he had put forward would be implemented. According to this, Mr. Guntersdorf will initially take over the management of the staff position alongside his current job as managing director of DomRömer GmbH. "I am glad that we have worked out a project structure in constructive talks together with Head of the Department of Culture Ina Hartwig and have found a personnel solution that is not only good for the stages but also ensures an orderly conclusion of the DomRömer project," said Schneider. He added that the agreed personnel concept for the staff position guaranteed that Mr. Guntersdorf would be deputized and that the expertise and previous project work on the Städtische Bühnen in the Office for Construction and Real Estate would dovetail.

"I am glad that the organisational basis for dealing with this complex task has now been laid by mutual agreement," said Stefan Majer, head of the personnel department.

"I am looking forward to this responsible task. It is an honor for me to prepare this important Frankfurt construction project and to promptly present the next steps such as a schedule as well as the staffing of the staff position," said Michael Guntersdorf. Michael F. Guntersdorf has been managing director of DomRömer GmbH since December 2009.

Guntersdorf studied fine arts at the Städel in Frankfurt and architecture at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Kassel, followed by studies in architecture, urban planning and landscape planning. From 1983 to 1993 he was project manager for, among others, the new building of the Landeszentralbank in Frankfurt and the Dresdner Bank. In 1988, he was appointed by the Hessian Minister of the Interior to the expert committee of the city of Frankfurt, where he still serves as deputy chairman.
