Great opera and really good news in this difficult cultural year: after 1996, 2003, 2015 and 2018, Oper Frankfurt was voted "Opera House of the Year" for the fifth time in the annual survey by the trade magazine "Opernwelt". This year, the Opera shares this award with the Grand Théâtre de Genève.
"The repeated nomination as Opera House of the Year is a confirmation of the continuous work at a top level of opera director Bernd Loebe. Especially in the current difficult situation, the well-deserved award is a great pleasure. The house inspires its audience every season with extraordinary productions and experimental courage between tradition and innovation and thus sets standards. It is the fourth award that has been given to the Haus am Willy-Brandt-Platz within the directorship of Bernd Loebe by the authors working for the trade magazine. Once again, the high quality of the performances and a cleverly balanced programme that takes into account various opera genres were honoured.
