Tunnel closure on Ascension Day: Extensive replacement service

It's that time again: Due to the installation of the new electronic signal box (ESTW), once again the S-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt has to be closed. This time, however, only for a few days for important testing and acceptance runs. From Thursday, May 10, 1 a.m., until Monday, May 14, 4 a.m., the tunnel will therefore be closed once again.

What this means should be familiar to most commuters: The S-Bahn lines S1 to S6 as well as the S8 and S9 will not run through Frankfurt city center during the closure. To ensure that all passengers still get to their destination quickly and comfortably, the timetable service in Frankfurt will be extended on many lines.

In addition - and this is a real alternative when the weather is nice - around 2700 rental bikes from Call a Bike are waiting at more than 300 stations for anyone who wants to get around the closure in a sporty way. During the S-Bahn tunnel closure, the first 30 minutes of each ride are free of charge. For new customers, simply sign up for the basic rate via the Call a Bike app or at <link http: www.callabike.de _blank>

and save the annual fee during the closure.

In addition, RMV and DB are reinforcing the service staff on site: 17 passenger guidance teams will be on standby at busy stops during the closure to help passengers directly on the spot.

RMV tickets can be used on the ICE and IC trains between Hanau and Frankfurt if the regular ticket is valid for the route. Likewise, DB tickets can be used to travel on Frankfurt city transport if the ticket entitles you to travel through the S-Bahn tunnel. To get from Offenbach to the airport quickly, there is a bus from Offenbach-Ost to Terminal 1 every 30 minutes. The most important connection between Offenbach and Frankfurt is the S1 from Offenbach-Ost via Frankfurt-Süd. Another fast connection is the replacement bus between Mühlberg as well as Offenbach-Kaiserlei and Frankfurt-Süd.

All details about the replacement traffic, reports and videos around the construction site can be found on <link http: www.sbahnbaustelle.de _blank>

The changes in detail:

S-Bahn line S1

The S1 usually runs every half hour on the sections Wiesbaden - Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (low) (from 5 am to 10 pm) or. Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (high) (from 10 pm to 5 am). In the direction of Ober-Roden, the S1 also stops at Offenbach Hauptbahnhof. In the opposite direction, i.e. in the direction of Frankfurt, there is unfortunately no stop possible there. Partial trips from both directions also start/end at Frankfurt Süd.

From/to the main station, there are then regional trains that you can change to. In Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, a change is required between the S1 commuter service from/in the direction of Wiesbaden in the Tiefbahnhof and the S1 commuter service from the tracks above ground.

There will also be cancellations between Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof and Offenbach Ost on some nights between 10 and 22 May due to track renewal. A replacement bus service will be provided.
