Wäldchestag cancelled again

Wäldchestag cancelled again

This news should really come as no surprise. However, that doesn't change the fact that it is very sad news for many Frankfurt residents: the Wäldchestag, which was supposed to take place from May 22 - 25, has been cancelled again this year. The traditional folk festival in the city forest, which was first held in the late 18th century, cannot be held, as it was in 2020, as a result of the Corona pandemic and the resulting measures and restrictions.

The folk festival, which for a long time culminated in a semi-official holiday on which even Frankfurt shops closed in the afternoon until the 1990s, attracts many thousands of people to the fairground at the Oberforsthaus year after year. With many rides, food stalls, summer gardens and live music, the multi-day festival attracts visitors, including families especially at the weekend, from all over the surrounding area.

After the spring Dippemess already had to be cancelled for a second time, Frankfurt's Volksfest hopes are now pinned on the Mainfest and the autumn Dippemess being allowed to take place. For the Dippemess there is already a worked out hygiene concept, which could be adapted problem-free to the respective Pandemiegeschehen. Nevertheless, it is of course not yet certain whether it will be possible to celebrate on a larger scale again in Frankfurt in the course of the year. We will keep you informed...
