Warning strike - but suburban trains and buses run!

U-railways and streetcars to stop on 22. March shutdown

For the third time this year, warning strikes have been announced in public transport. It is therefore expected that on Wednesday, March 22, again all nine subway lines and ten streetcar lines will be on strike and thus cancelled without replacement.

Especially the strike of the subway as the backbone of the urban public transport network will painfully affect many passengers. However, suburban trains, regional trains and bus lines are running according to schedule, which is why they can help out as an alternative in many cases in Frankfurt's densely structured local transport network. The S-Bahn lines, for example, offer good connections between the main train station, the city center and the southern train station. Bus line 30, for example, follows the same route as streetcar line 18 between Börneplatz and Friedberger Warte at peak demand times. However, these means of transport cannot be a full replacement for the strike-stricken lines.

The municipal public transport company traffiQ and Verkehrsgellschaft Frankfurt (VGF) recommend that their passengers obtain up-to-date information as soon as possible before starting their journey. You can get it from the radio stations, from the RMV service phone at 069/24248024, which is available 24/7, on the Internet at rmv-frankfurt.de and in social media.

In the Internet timetable information, the subway and streetcar connections can be hidden so that only the alternative suburban trains, regional trains and buses that actually run are displayed: Under "What with", select "Show options" and remove the check marks for "U-Bahn" and "Straßenbahn". The RMV app also offers the option of deselecting individual means of transport.

Since the union only discloses its strike strategy to a limited extent, this information is subject to change and may also change at short notice. traffiQ and VGF will provide regular and as up-to-date information as possible on the strike situation on the Internet, on social media channels and with notices, especially to radio stations.

These lines are expected to operate despite the public service warning strike:

  • the S-Bahn lines S1 to S6, S8 and S9
  • all regional trains
  • all bus lines
