Rail strike: Urban public transport runs as usual as planned

S-Bahn and regional trains likely to be restricted - many good alternatives in Frankfurt

In the current wage dispute with Deutsche Bahn (DB), the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) has once again called on its members to strike across Germany. Passenger services are to go on strike from Wednesday, January 24, at 2 am. The strike is scheduled to end the following Monday, January 29, at 6 pm. Regional trains and S-Bahn trains in the RMV area are also likely to be affected by the work stoppages.

And as with the previous GDL strikes, the subway trains, streetcars and bus lines in Frankfurt are not expected to be affected by the strike and will therefore run as planned. They will certainly not be able to replace the suburban trains, but in many cases they can help as an alternative in Frankfurt's densely scheduled local transport network. Experience has shown that the regional buses that travel into Frankfurt are also "on track".

The subway lines U1, U2, U6 and U7 will run with three-car trains until the end of service, and the last car will not be detached in the evening hours as usual. On bus route 61 to the airport, articulated buses will be used wherever possible, as they offer more space.

The municipal public transport company traffiQ and the VGF recommend that passengers obtain up-to-date information shortly before setting off. This can be obtained via the radio stations, on the RMV service telephone at 069/2424-8024, which is available around the clock, via the RMVGo app, on the Internet at rmv-frankfurt.de and on social media.
