2018 brings many special exhibitions to the Museumsufer

The 2018 exhibition programme of Frankfurt's museums beckons with numerous highlights

(kus) After an extremely successful exhibition year in 2017, Head of the Department of Culture Ina Hartwig is looking forward with anticipation to the numerous special exhibitions announced for the coming year by Frankfurt's museums and exhibition venues. "In 2017 we reopened the Historical Museum, next year the Jewish Museum will celebrate its topping-out ceremony and the Children's Museum will return to the Saalhof after ten years at the Hauptwache under its new name ‚Junges Museum'. In the surroundings of the newly developed Old Town, the Museumsufer is experiencing a consistent further development on the north side of the Main. I am pleased that the citizens of Frankfurt and visitors to our city can benefit from the high quality and diversity of our houses."

The Museum Angewandte Kunst is showing until May 6 "Jil Sander. Präsens", a highly acclaimed exhibition. The MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst is also showing "A Tale of Two Worlds. Experimental Latin American Art from the 1940s to the 1980s in Dialogue with the MMK Collection". The Senckenberg Naturmuseum's special exhibition "Fascination Diversity - Research for Your Life" for the anniversary year 2017 runs until August 5. "Great opera - a lot of theatre?" asks the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, portraying stage buildings in European comparison from 24 March to 13 May. To mark the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage, a special exhibition will be held from 30 August to 20 January 2019 in the new building of the Historisches Museum, which opened in 2017. The Kunsthalle Schirn and the Städel Museum will be presenting two heavyweights in art history in 2018: At the Städel, the special exhibition "Rubens. The Power of Transformation," at the Schirn from February 16 to May 27, "Basquiat. Boom for Real". Several Frankfurt houses are participating in the biennial "RAY Fotografieprojekte Frankfurt/RheinMain 2018" at the same time.

In the museums, moreover, anniversaries such as that of the 68er movement will be taken up in events and the guest country of the 2018 Book Fair, Georgia, will be presented in exhibitions. Many of the upcoming shows are suitable for young people and school classes, who enjoy free admission to the city's museums, as do students from Goethe University and the University of Applied Scienes.
