Another formal step has been taken for the planned multifunctional arena on the edge of the Frankfurt stadium. According to its own statements, Sportpark Stadion GmbH (SSF) has published a Europe-wide tender for general planning services. This marks the start of a new phase in the project. The tender initially covers services for basic evaluation and preliminary planning. At this stage, the conceptual, technical and functional requirements for the project are to be developed. The aim is to create a sound basis for decision-making for the further planning steps. The services are scheduled to be awarded in July 2026. The arena is intended to open up new perspectives for professional indoor sports in Frankfurt in particular. For the Skyliners basketball team and the Löwen Frankfurt ice hockey club, the project offers the prospect of improved infrastructure, expanded marketing opportunities and greater comfort for spectators. At the same time, the hall is designed as a flexible venue for sporting and cultural events at both national and international level.
Mayor Mike Josef (SPD) spoke of a "logical step" for Frankfurt as a centre for sport and culture. The multifunctional arena will be a central building block for the further development of the city – economically, socially and culturally.
Moritz Schneider, managing director of SSF, also sees the tender as marking the transition from strategic preparation to concrete planning. The aim is to create an arena that meets the requirements of modern professional sport and at the same time serves as a versatile venue for Frankfurt and the region.
