40th anniversary of Eintracht's UEFA Cup victory: A wall graffiti for Charly Körbel

May 21 marked the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest triumphs in Eintracht Frankfurt's club history: their UEFA Cup victory in 1980. It was the victory of the UEFA Cup in 1980. In the final second leg against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Fred Schaub, who was substituted by coach Friedel Rausch shortly before the end, scored the Eintracht to victory. Not only for the players an unforgettable event. The fans also look back fondly on this success, which has now been immortalised on a house wall in Bockenheim by a Frankfurt artists' collective. After the Anthony-Yeboah-Haus in Niederrad, which sets a strong signal against racism through a huge wall graffiti, and a mural in the Westend in honor of the DFB Cup victory in 2018, so now another declaration of love for Eintracht on a Frankfurt house wall.

In the center of the graffiti, which according to a report by Hessenschau, which took 300 hours of work using 400 spray cans, is Eintracht legend Charly Körbel. On the work of the artists' collective "Frankfurter Farbe" Körbel is holding the UEFA Cup aloft - a moment that is more than worthy of being immortalised in such an impressive way. Apparently, long-time Eintracht captain Charly Körbel himself feels the same way. He has still refined the graffiti with his signature.

Even if the work could not be officially unveiled as planned on May 21, 2020 due to the restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic, this admittedly does not change the enthusiasm that the large mural generates among fans. And one thing is for sure: The work of the artist collective is guaranteed to be honored by countless snapshots fans will take in front of this house on Werrastraße in the future. And who knows: Maybe a few more such impressive wall graffiti will join the already existing works in the future. Not only fans will be happy about that - a bit of color, if applied in such a way, is also good for the cityscape!
