Also 2022 no night of the museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach

Also 2022 no night of the museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach

Although significant relaxations of the Corona regulations have been announced for the coming weeks. Nevertheless, there will continue to be restrictions especially for large events. The situation is still simply too uncertain and the incidence of infection too dynamic. For this reason, it has now been decided that the "Night of the Museums in Frankfurt and Offenbach" scheduled for the spring must also be canceled this year - now for the third time in a row.

The reason is the enormous public appeal of the event. Because the Night of the Museums has always attracted a large number of visitors to the participating museums: in 2019 alone, when the Night of the Museums was held for the last time so far, about 35,000 people interested in culture came, who can hardly be controlled by the organizer, because they decide themselves and spontaneously which houses they visit. In a pandemic with strict rules for major events, this poses a problem that can hardly be solved. In many houses, experience shows that the crowds are so large that, from today's perspective, a comprehensive hygiene concept is hardly possible.

In addition, events of this magnitude, in which more than 50 venues are played simultaneously, necessarily require an organizational lead time of several months. Unfortunately, the relaxation now expected for the first time comes too late for this year, because after two failed attempts in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, the organizers decided several months ago not to start preparations for the next event until it is certain that it can take place. So far one will be however earliest around Easter and thus in view of the necessary Vorlauf for the organization too late for 2022.

Also a night of the museums in the smaller framework with clearly limited ticket contingents was examined as alternative: As a result, this would lead to considerable deficits and burdens for the participating museums and institutions and is therefore not justifiable in view of the current budget situation of the city of Frankfurt. Therefore, the Night of the Museums must just cancel for the third time in a row due to the pandemic.
