The Frankfurt police have just issued an urgent warning:
(ne) Since this morning,fake police officers have been calling their potential victims throughout the Frankfurt area, asking for money and assets.
The entire area code 069 is called off. The perpetrators pretend to be police officers and sometimes send along an official authority telephone number, which is, however, artificially generated (call ID spoofing). With flimsy stories, such as that there is a note with addresses of the police, where burglars will soon try to make loot. Accordingly, the victims would have to hand over their cash or valuables to a police officer who would pick it up, or deposit it somewhere safe for collection.
The Frankfurt Criminal Investigation Department assumes that around 1000 such calls are received here in the Frankfurt area every hour from call centres abroad. Therefore, the appeal of the police: Please stay alert, hang up and report to the police emergency number 110!
