Badesalz babble now also in the train

For more than a quarter of a century Henni Nachtsheim and Gerd Knebel as BADESALZ are indispensable from the comedy scene in Germany. Their humour is bizarre, offbeat and yet always very close to (Hessian) reality. The duo belongs to Hesse - and especially to Frankfurt - like green sauce, apple wine and the VGF. And so it was only natural that BADESALZ should in future make announcements of a somewhat different kind in the trains of the VGF to draw passengers' attention to signal or switch malfunctions, to remind them of objects that are often forgotten in trains, or to ask them to clear the doors.

The idea for the "Hessisch Gebabbel (Aansache) in de Bahn" came during the VGF's 20th birthday celebrations last year, which were hosted by Henni Nachtsheim. This went down so well with the guests that there was quickly talk of further collaboration, which ultimately led to the recording of the amusing announcements. From the beginning of May, Badesalz will not only announce a total of twenty stops, revealing what awaits passengers at the zoo or the Nordwestzentrum, or what Heinrich-Hoffmann-Strasse has to do with Jimi Hendrix. General announcements such as departure, arrival at the terminus, diversions or delays also sound out of the loudspeakers in typical Badesalz fashion. When you are actually annoyed about the delay, the duo tries in its own way to still put a grin on the face of the passengers. And when you hear what Badesalz says can cause a delay, there should be no doubt that this mission has succeeded.

During a round trip from the VGF depot Gutleut to the stadium and back, the announcements were presented for the first time today, Monday. Henni Nachtsheim and Gerd Knebel accompanied the premiere trip together with head of transport Klaus Oesterling and VGF managing director Thomas Wissgott. Henni Nachtsheim took the opportunity to try his hand as a tram driver for a few moments at the stadium.

The 37 announcements are now gradually being played in the 400 or so VGF trams and underground trains. And if the Hessisch Gebabbel is as well received by the passengers as it was on the premiere trip, then there is nothing to stop this project from being extended. These announcements are not only a humorous way of dealing with everyday stress and conflict situations. Frankfurt is also giving its local transport its very own, unmistakable touch. Keep it up!
