Dig your feet into the sand, a cool drink in your hand and just relax and enjoy the summer - you don't need to travel far for that. Because in August a new oasis of well-being will open in the heart of our beautiful city. 500 tons of finest sand will transform the currently undeveloped area directly at the Opernplatz into a pop-up beach club for about three months. It is not the first beach club to open in the Main metropolis. But the central, atmospheric location between the bank towers and directly in front of the Alte Oper are guaranteed to make the big city beach one of the hottest locations this summer.
Behind the project are the makers of the Gibson Club, to whom SIGNA Real Estate is making the attractive space available. In addition to the finest beach volleyball sand, wood and plants will ensure that this is the perfect place to relax and feast. Up to 600 guests will then have the opportunity to chill out on cushioned loungers under parasols, on four-poster beds or at the bar, or to relax with loved ones and delicious drinks from the hectic and noisy everyday city life.
The Gibson Beach Club OP2 is currently being built on a 3,500 sqm site. Gibson managing director Madjid Djamegari promises his guests a very special holiday feeling: "There will be sun loungers, four-poster beds, bars, food stations and a boutique. You walk barefoot over wooden paths and double-sieved, finest sand, in which not only your feet feel like on holiday", says Djamegari: "The only thing missing is really the sea!". Well, not quite - because there will also be a pool for children and to refresh the feet for the adults. The central focal point and visual highlight of the beach club will be the covered bar and lounges, which will provide shelter even in the rain and ensure continuous operation.
The Gibson Beach Club OP2 will offer all-day dining: This is not only ensured by several bars, but also the offer for the physical well-being. During the day there will be salads, sandwiches and paninis from Strahmann as well as tacos and Italian ice cream specialities. In the evening, a foretaste of Djamegari's Mexican restaurant project will be served, which will open in Stiftstraße in autumn. And there's no shortage of entertainment either, after all, the makers of the Beach Club run Frankfurt's hottest music club, the Gibson. DJs and live bands turn the sundowner in front of the Alte Oper into a summer happening for city people.
As ideal as the location may seem - it is actually a stopgap. Because originally the atmospheric beach landscape was to be created in Babenhausen at the quarry pond, but until last there was no final permission from the authorities. It is a real stroke of luck that the three Gibson makers have been granted permission by the property owner SIGNA Real Estate to use the site at Opernplatz 2 on a temporary basis for the coming months: "We think it is great that Signa has been so enthusiastic and has made the project possible", says Gibson Managing Director Bastian Bernhagen, "this is a unique highlight for us and for Frankfurt". The project is temporary; the entire site will be vacated by the end of October 2021. "We are very pleased to be able to make our site available for this great temporary use in the heart of the City", said Tobias Sauerbier, CEO of SIGNA Real Estate. "After the long dry spell of the past few months, we are happy to give all Frankfurt residents the opportunity to enjoy a bit of beach feeling directly on Opernplatz before the redevelopment of the site, which has already been cleared, gets underway."
"We're working flat out to open the Beach Club in the first week of August," said Pierre Klippstein, the third partner in the alliance, "We'll announce the exact date in the last week of July." Hopefully, the weather will continue to cooperate until then. If the last few days are any indication of what to expect from August to October, then a visit to a beach club like this is of course ideal.
However, one thing is clear: especially in view of the fact that infection figures are on the rise again, hygiene and safety are paramount for the operators. Together with the Frankfurt Health Department, a hygiene concept for the Gibson Club was developed and agreed upon; the core elements will be transferred to the outdoor area. There will also be entrance checks to control the number of people; in addition, access for people under 18 years of age is not permitted after 6 pm.
