Binding Culture Award 2021 goes to ID_Frankfurt

Just in the past few months we have felt how important culture is. How much we miss being able to share with others a love of music, film, theatre or art. At a time like this, an award like the Binding Culture Prize, one of Germany's most prestigious art prizes, takes on a special significance. goes to the non-profit ID_Frankfurt e. V. (Independent Dance and Performance). The award, endowed with 50,000 euros, will be presented this year for the 26th time.

The association of freelance artists, theorists and mediators in choreography and performance working in Frankfurt am Main and the surrounding area was founded in 2009. Many members are outstanding graduates from the region's universities. The aim of the association's work is to improve production conditions in the independent performing arts. For the board of trustees of the Binding Cultural Foundation, this was a reason to select the ID_Frankfurt association as a Binding Cultural Prize winner.

The activities of ID_Frankfurt are developed and carried out by the members in a collaborative and solidary way. A changing voluntary board accompanies and supports these processes. "ID_Frankfurt has developed into an important impulse-giving organisation in the Frankfurt cultural scene. We are very pleased about the great recognition that the commitment of the association receives through the award of the Binding Culture Prize," explains Jacob Bussmann, board member of ID_Frankfurt.

Hoping that the infectious event will allow it this year, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann is looking forward to the award ceremony in autumn, when not only ID_Frankfurt but also last year's winners - the Young Frankfurt Philharmonic Orchestra - will be honoured in the Kaisersaal: "It is the civic spirit of our city not to leave the support of culture to the public sector alone. The Binding Culture Prize is exemplary for this. And with ID_Frankfurt, an association is being honoured that not only networks artists, but is also a weighty voice for change in the promotion of culture in our city". The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on 30 October 2021. With this year's double award to the prize winners of 2020 and 2021, the tradition-rich Binding brewery once again underlines its close ties to its home region.

With ID_Frankfurt, another top-class cultural institution joins the always outstanding prize winners. In making this decision, the Board of Trustees of the Binding Cultural Foundation deliberately chose an organisation from the field of the performing arts, which have been affected to a particularly high degree by the pandemic. "With ID_Frankfurt, we are paying tribute in times of crisis to an association that is open, collaborative and successfully committed to smart, balanced theatre funding," explains board of trustees member Peter Michalzik.

And Bergit Gräfin Douglas, Chairwoman of the Board of the Binding Cultural Foundation, adds in conclusion: "The Corona crisis has left many cultural workers in dire straits. The fact that we are awarding the Binding Culture Prize twice this year is a strong signal in what is also a very difficult time for the Binding brewery."
