Bundesbank opens doors for 60th birthday

Bundesbank opens doors for 60th birthday

Three years ago, the Bundesbank held its first open days at its head office in Taunusanlage and at its headquarters in Wilhelm-Epstein-Strasse. The response was huge, with over 28,000 visitors counted over the two days. Since citizens seem to want to learn more about the world of central banking, the decision was made to make the open days a regular event, to be held every three years. The first weekend in July will now once again offer anyone interested the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes at the Bundesbank. The date is perfectly chosen, as 2017 will also see the celebration of the Bundesbank's 60th birthday. And so the two days of festivities will also offer an interesting look at the Bundesbank's history.

In the head office, for example, visitors will have the opportunity to visit a historic banknote hall, where there will be an exhibition showing, among other things, the three banknote series of the D-Mark and photos of everyday work from six decades of the Bundesbank. At the head office, there is the 60th anniversary trail of the Bundesbank. At six information cuboids, there are film clips, photos and texts on each decade of the Bundesbank's history, from its foundation in 1957 to the financial and debt crisis.

Information, discussions, dialogue - that is of course the main focus here. But of course, the whole thing is also meant to be a lot of fun and entertainment. So you can try your hand at an XXL Carrera race track, master an obstacle course in a zorb ball, test your sense of balance on a surf simulator or see how a money processing machine works. There will also be live music, gold bars to touch, a magic show and an area for kids with money bag bounces, face painting and much more.

The whole thing is themed "Take your picture of the Bundesbank" - and that's meant literally. You can vigorously take cell phone photos, which you can then still print out at some of the stations on site, and then stick them in a photo book available on site. The whole thing is free, of course, and makes a nice memento for your visit to the open house!
