Camberger Straße - City redevelops important connection west of the main station

(ffm) Camberger Straße is the central traffic connection to get from the Gallus quarter west of Frankfurt's main station across the railway facilities to the Gutleut quarter to the south. Most road users will not notice how complicated the road actually is, because it is a combined road and bridge structure. The Office of Road Construction and Development (ASE) is now repairing some parts of the bridge and the road. Construction work is expected to start on Monday, August 13.

The bridge section of Camberger Straße consists, strictly speaking, of five smaller bridge structures and a retaining wall. ASE is now rehabilitating three of them - the one between the Gutleutstrasse and Hermann-Eggert-Strasse intersections - as well as the section of road in between. In the process, not only are the sidewalks, bike paths and roadway being rehabilitated. The bridges will also receive new railings and contact protection.

Building will take place in two sections, first the west side will be done, then the east side. Current plans call for the work to be completed in June 2019. The bridge repairs along Camberg Road are part of the City of Frankfort's bridge construction program. The construction costs are 2.5 million euros.

During the bridge construction work, Camberger Straße will become a one-way street for through traffic in the direction of Galluswarte (north) from Monday, August 13, until mid-2019. Traffic in the direction of Gutleutstraße (south) will be diverted via Mainzer Landstraße and Hafentunnel. Pedestrians and cyclists will always be able to pass the construction site in both directions.

The bridge construction work will be carried out on one side in each of two construction phases. The construction site is located between Gutleutstraße and Hermann-Eggert-Straße. The access roads to the railway premises as well as to the Mainova car park (only coming from the south) will be available. For the northern residents, Camberger Straße between Mainzer Landstraße and Hermann-Eggert-Straße will become a dead end.

Due to the construction work, the night bus line n8 in the direction of Konstablerwache will run from Galluswarte via Mainzer Landstraße to Platz der Republik from Monday, 13 August. In Westhafen, the stops Camberger Straße to Rottweiler Platz will therefore be permanently cancelled.
