Cautious reopening of Frankfurt Zoo

01.05.2020 | 14:58 Clock | Favorite places
Cautious reopening of Frankfurt Zoo

After six weeks, the time has finally come. Alongside the city's museums, Frankfurt Zoo will also reopen its doors to visitors from Wednesday, 06.05.2020. However, under strict safety regulations, which will also lead to some restrictions for the time being. After all, the safety and health of visitors and staff is still the very first priority.

Even though visiting the zoo will still be quite different from what you are used to, Ina Hartwig, Head of Department for Culture and Science, is sure that it is not only a good decision for the visitors that the zoo is allowed to reopen: "A walk through the Zoological Garden along the outdoor facilities with the animals is certainly a welcome change after the many weeks of doing without. Even some of the zoo animals have missed their audience."

Zoo director Miguel Casares is also very happy that the zoo and its animals can finally welcome visitors again. "Spectacled bears, forest dogs, alpacas, penguins and many other animals can be observed well - even more so in the spring-like weather," says Casares. He continued, "We're very happy to have visitors coming again - especially since there's been a lot going on at the zoo - not the least of which was the birth of some cubs."

Transition regulations at a glance - Be sure to read through before your next visit:

- The same spacing and hygiene rules apply at the zoo as in all other public areas.

- At the zoo, there is a requirement to wear appropriate mouth-to-nose coverings for persons six years of age and older. However, the zoo specifically states that such protection is not provided or available for purchase, but must be brought by the individual. The obligation exists in the ticket office area and in the toilets! In the zoo area itself, wearing is recommended!

- For the zoo visit, the currently valid contact rules also apply: Families and Domestic Communities and Twos.

- All animal houses, the playground and picnic areas will remain closed, and some areas, such as around the monkey houses and cat jungle, will remain closed.

- Admission is limited to a number of people per day. A maximum of 250 visitors can be at the zoo during each of three three-hour time windows. The time slots, which can be booked through online tickets, are 9 a.m.-12 p.m., 12:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.-1 p.m.

- Zoo admission tickets can only be obtained online. The zoo has revamped its online ticket shop to accommodate this. It is expected to be accessible via the zoo's website, www.zoo-frankfurt.de, by the middle of next week. The exact launch date is yet to be announced.

- The admission price has been reduced and costs a uniform 5 euros for all zoo visitors (adults, children and young people from the 6th to 18th birthday). Children under 6 years have free admission as usual. However, a 0 euro time slot must also be booked online for children under 6.

- There will be no ticket sales at the zoo's ticket offices.

- The Rhönstraße entrance remains closed, but will open as soon as regular operations resume.

- The zoo's previously available online ticket shop has been temporarily taken offline. Tickets already purchased will remain valid, but cannot be redeemed during the transition period until regular operations resume.

- Annual passes will be extended for two months. Renewals can be made at the zoo ticket office. Annual pass holders must also book a 0 euro time slot in the online shop before visiting the zoo.

- Due to the need to avoid large crowds at the zoo, no show feedings will take place until further notice.

- All events and group formats are cancelled at least until the end of the summer holidays.

- Zoo shop, food truck and ice cream stands are open.

New developments will be posted on the website http://www.zoo-frankfurt.de regularly. Please note: The regulations are valid until further notice, subject to other requirements of the state government and will be adjusted, if necessary, to the current situation
