Due to technical problems with the stage, the Darmstadt Residence Festival had to change its performance venue for the first phase of the festival: The concerts from 30 July - 03 August and from 06-11 August 2021 will take place on the forecourt of the Zeughaus (bioversum) at the Jagdschloss Kranichstein and not in the Akaziengarten as announced.
Highlights of the first weekend are the opening concert with the Klazz Brothers on Fr, 30 July 2021, at 8.30 pm at Jagdschloss Kranichstein. Klazz Brothers will perform their program "Beethoven meets Cuba", fusing the late genius' compact music with fiery Cuban rhythms in a way never heard before, a blend of classical and jazz.
On Sa. 31 July 2021, 8.30 pm is a "Shakespeare Gala"with the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra of Constance under the direction of Sebastian Schwab. They offer a colorful program of well-known composers around "To be or not to be". The soloist is Sydney-born soprano Valda Wilson with arias from Verdi's Othello and Cole Porter's Kiss me Kate. This light-hearted program will be hosted by Insa Pijanka.
The first weekend will conclude with the Irish folk band "Síoltas" on 01. August 2021, 20.30 clock - also in front of the armoury at the hunting lodge Kranichstein -. Their music is inspired by old Irish ballads and the Irish people's desire for freedom. So the songs have connections to the past and modern elements. At the live concerts, the music always emerges anew - and that exudes the musical joy that the audience experiences at the concerts.
The upcoming festival week begins on Tuesday, 03 August, 20.30 clock in Kranichstein with the Konstantin Wecker - Trio. After Konstantin Wecker's grandiose success at the Darmstadt Residence Festival 2019, he performs this year at the Residence Festival in a trio with his long-time stage partners, cellist Fany Kammerlander and pianist Jo Barnikel.
