“Ciro mach Amore mit mir” – From cult song in Mainz to new carnival hit

'Ciro mach Amore mit mir” – From cult song in Mainz to new carnival hit

It sounds like swaying, like southern temperament – and is now probably the hottest contender for the 2025/2026 carnival hit: "Ciro mach Amore mit mir". What has been part of Mainz's song repertoire for decades is now conquering the big festival tents between Mallorca, Munich and the Rhine-Main area.

From carnival to the beach

The new version comes from none other than Markus Becker. The man who got millions of people singing along with "Das rote Pferd" has reinterpreted the evergreen hit by Mainz native Ciro Visone. Together with composer Oliver Mager, he gave the song a powerful beat, a hymn-like arrangement – and a voice that carries every line in the festival tent. "I immediately sensed that this song had the makings of a national hit," says Becker. "The audience starts swaying along right from the first chorus." Thousands are already singing the catchy line in chorus at Ballermann.

Song fits in with the current times

The fact that the song is catching on right now is also due to the trend: Italo pop has been experiencing a real hype for years – in Italy as well as in Germany. For many, this music is much more than entertainment; it is a way of life.

Italian pop music – also known as "musica leggera" – is known for its exuberance, emotionality and melodic language, which often "goes a step further" than other pop traditions. In Italy, it is one of the most important forms of cultural expression because it not only sings about summer, gelato and Aperol, but also reflects everyday life, regional differences, politics and society. In Germany, this has long since developed into a trend: bands such as Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, the Wanda are prime examples of the ongoing Italo hype. Here too, the mixture of longing, joie de vivre and a pinch of melancholy is thrilling a wide audience.

Seen in this light, it is no coincidence that "Ciro mach Amore mit mir" is becoming an anthem right now – the song combines the Rhineland attitude to life with the international Italo sound that is currently in demand everywhere.
