City of Frankfurt prepares for the European Football Championship with workshop

(ffm) Around eighty representatives from city departments and key organizations and institutions from the city and region came together last week under the theme of "sustainability" for a workshop that focused on Frankfurt and the 2024 European Football Championship.

On Thursday, September 27, UEFA will announce who will be the host of the 2024 European Football Championship. Should Germany win the bid, (the only competitor is Turkey) Frankfurt will be the venue. In order to prepare for this event and to explore and discuss the opportunities and possibilities of the major event in the areas of "Diversity and Integration", "European Exchange", "Environment and Nature", "Mobility and Regional Economy", "Fair Play and Human Rights", "Frankfurt: Sporty and Healthy", "Security and Prevention" and "Brand Frankfurt", the experts met in the Commerzbank Arena for a half-day working meeting. The event was led by Arved Lüth, whose agency "Response" has been commissioned by the Frankfurt Office to structure and moderate the municipal process on the subject of "sustainability". Head of Staff Office Georg Kemper welcomed those present and thanked them for their work in the run-up to the event: "We can't do it without their cooperation on the way to EURO 2024; together we want to pull together for Frankfurt and the region." Prior to the event, participants had already filled out questionnaires on the above-mentioned topics, thus helping to prepare the event. The managing director of Stadion GmbH, Patrick Meyer, and Frankfurt's head of sports, Markus Frank, also welcomed the guests. "We are looking forward to great football matches and a great and peaceful atmosphere in Frankfurt. We involve associations, institutions and authorities so that they can have an early influence on the preparations and planning of the European Football Championship," emphasized City Councillor Markus Frank. The eight topics were discussed at round tables, where ideas were collected, plans developed and both opportunities and risks identified. "Such a major event offers Frankfurt the opportunity to promote necessary modernisation work in the infrastructure and a productive identification with the city and the region. We want the city and the entire region to rally behind this event and, in the course of this, positive and sustainable changes can be implemented that will further develop the lives of citizens in Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region," stresses Head of Staff Kemper on the impact of EURO 2024 outside the actual event of the game.
