(ffm) On German Half-Timbered House Day on Sunday, May 26, Tourismus+Congress GmbH is offering two guided tours of half-timbered houses in the Höchst district. German Half-Timbered House Day is intended to raise awareness of half-timbered houses and make it clear that the existing stock of around 100,000 half-timbered houses in the member towns of the German Half-Timbered House Route represents a unique cultural asset worthy of protection. Its preservation should be considered a major obligation, as it offers a unique asset for owners and towns.
H Höchst is home to the largest contiguous half-timbered quarter in the Frankfurt urban area, covering approximately 7.5 hectares.
The buildings date back over five centuries. The historic buildings, listed since 1972, nestle between Schlossplatz and Marktplatz, forming a charming ensemble. Along representative half-timbered buildings, such as the Haus zum Anker, the Dalberg Haus or the Haus am Burggraben 6, the guided tours take those interested into the history of the quarter and the traditions of German half-timbering.
The two-hour tours begin at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Tourist Information Höchst, Antoniterstrasse 22, and are free of charge.
